United States of America Cigar Society t-shirt in navy, one of the best cigar shirts for men

The Best Cigar Shirts for Men (2026): An Honest Roundup

The best cigar shirts for men come down to four things nobody on a product page wants to talk about: what shirt it's actually printed on, how it's printed, how far the sizes run, and whether the design says something or just shouts. Judge on those four and the field sorts itself fast. Most cigar shirts sold today are retailer swag with no published fabric spec.

I run a cigar apparel brand. So yes, I have a dog in this fight, and I'll say so every time one of my shirts shows up below. But I also went and priced the competition this week, page by page, and some of them beat me at things I can't do. That part's in here too.

The short version

  • Everyday tee you'll actually reach for: a designed graphic tee on a soft ring-spun cotton shirt, $25–$32.
  • Cheapest that still looks okay: Etsy, $9–$20. Roll the dice on the shirt itself.
  • Loudest brand loyalty: manufacturer merch — Rocky Patel's shop runs $28 a tee.
  • Actual lounge button-down: a Cuban collar shirt, $67–$73.
  • The classic: a linen guayabera, $69–$106.
  • Skip entirely: anything with a cigar brand's logo you didn't pay for and didn't earn.

How I judged them

Four questions. That's the whole rubric.

1. Does the seller tell you what shirt it's printed on? This is the tell. I checked ten places that sell cigar shirts. Two of them name the garment. Two. Everybody else sells you a picture of a shirt and hopes you don't ask.

2. How does it print? Screen, direct-to-garment, direct-to-film, embroidery. They feel different on your chest and they age differently in the dryer.

3. How far do the sizes go? And what do they charge you for being a big guy?

4. Would you wear it without explaining it? A shirt that needs a paragraph isn't a shirt. It's a bit.

That last one is personal. I spent about a decade in plain navy tees because every cigar shirt I could find was a cartoon gorilla in sunglasses, and somewhere in there I stopped getting compliments entirely. Ask a guy over 45 when somebody last said something nice about his shirt. Watch him do the math.

Quiet enough for the lounge, clear enough that a brother reads it across the room. Keep Calm and Cigar On in Military Green, $29.99.

The four kinds of cigar shirt

Before the picks, know what you're shopping for. There are only four categories here, and people mix them up constantly.

The gag tee. Punchline on the chest. Cheap, funny once, usually a thin shirt. Great for a herf, rough for a Tuesday.

Brand swag. A cigar company's logo. It's a credential — the guys who know, know — but you're advertising somebody else's company for $28.

The Cuban collar / guayabera. Actual button-down. Camp collar, boxy cut, meant to hang loose and breathe. This is what the well-dressed guy at the lounge is wearing.

The designed graphic tee. Original art, not a stock joke. Says you're in the club without putting a logo on you. That's the lane I build in. More on that in what actually counts as a cigar shirt.

The roundup

Cigar retailer merch: Holt's

Holt's runs the biggest actual apparel page of any cigar retailer I checked — 22 items as of today, tees from $8.95 up to $29.95, house designs plus manufacturer collabs (Holt's, checked Sept. 20, 2026). The $8.95 V-neck is the cheapest real cigar shirt I found anywhere.

What you don't get: any fabric spec at all. Not the garment brand, not the weight, nothing.

Buy it if you want a cigar shirt bundled into an order you were placing anyway.

Famous Smoke Shop

Worth naming because everybody assumes it's a big apparel line, and it isn't — when I pulled their apparel page this week there was exactly one live tee, the "Be a Man" shirt, marked $19.99 down from $29.99 and offered from M through 4XL (Famous Smoke Shop, checked Sept. 20, 2026). Good size range. One shirt.

Manufacturer merch: Rocky Patel

Eighteen tees, every one of them $28.00 flat (shop.rockypatel.com, checked Sept. 20, 2026). Vintage-year shirts, anniversary designs, wrapper callouts. If you smoke their sticks and want to fly the flag, this is the cleanest version of it.

Same blind spot: no garment named, no weight listed. You're paying $28 for a logo on an unknown garment. Some of their graphics also wade into politics, which is your call, not mine — I keep my stuff patriotic and leave it there.

Cigar This Is How I Roll t-shirt in red, a funny cigar shirt gift for a cigar smoker
The pun tee, done without the cartoon gorilla. Cigar This Is How I Roll in Red, $29.99.

The local-shop pick: Tabanero, Ybor City

Tampa's Ybor City has a real claim here. The Library of Congress puts it plainly: cigar man Vicente Martinez Ybor signed with the Tampa Board of Trade on Oct. 5, 1885, and by 1910 more than two hundred factories there were rolling over a million cigars a day (Library of Congress, guide updated Sept. 14, 2026). Buying a shirt from Ybor means something.

Tabanero's tees run $30.70, with XXL at $35.35, and long sleeves at $45.58 (tabanerocigars.com, checked Sept. 20, 2026). Here's the part I respect: they name the garment. Sport-Tek. Their long sleeves are described as performance microfiber with UPF 50+ — which is polyester, not cotton, and you should know that before you buy a "shirt" and get a jersey.

They're one of only two sellers in this entire roundup who tell you what you're actually wearing.

The lounge button-down: Bowling Concepts

Cuban collar shirts built for exactly this — they market them for Big Smoke events and bourbon nights. Seventeen styles, most of them $66.95 to $72.95 (bowlingconcepts.com, checked Sept. 20, 2026). Made in York, Pennsylvania, which is rare and worth something.

The honest note: that's the other seller who discloses fabric, and the fabric is polyester. Wrinkle-resistant, breathable, dressy — but polyester at seventy bucks. Know what you're getting. If you want the look with natural fiber, keep reading.

The classic: a linen guayabera

The guayabera is the cigar-world uniform, and the history is murkier than the internet tells you. HistoryMiami Museum's exhibition on the shirt says competing origin claims put it in Cuba, Spain, Mexico or the Philippines, and that "historical evidence, however, suggests that the garment emerged in Cuba" — anchored to a Spanish soldier's 1896 pay book from Cuba. In 2010 Cuba made it the country's official formal dress garment (AP, Oct. 7, 2010).

You'll see a story about a farmer asking his wife to sew him four big pockets to carry his cigars. Love that story. The museum files it under "most frequently told origin story," not under fact. Tell it at the lounge, don't put it on a plaque.

Real linen ones run $69 short-sleeve to $100 long-sleeve in Irish linen, and big-and-tall carries a real upcharge — $90 becomes $95, $100 becomes $106 (guayaberasonline.com, checked Sept. 20, 2026). Hold that thought for the sizing section.

Original art beats a stock joke every time. Vintage Cigar Great White Shark in Light Blue, $29.99. More in the vintage cigar animal collection.

Cheap and fast: Etsy, TeePublic, Redbubble

Etsy is the price floor. Real listings this week: $9.10, $14.98, $15.79, $15.99, $19.79 (Etsy, checked Sept. 20, 2026). TeePublic sits around $16 on sale against a $24 list (TeePublic, checked Sept. 20, 2026). Redbubble's cigar tees start around $21–$25 (Redbubble, checked Sept. 20, 2026).

None of the three say what shirt they're printing on, which at nine bucks is fine because you already knew that going in. At $25 with no spec, you're guessing with real money.

One more thing worth knowing: a couple of sites rank on page one for "cigar shirts for men" with literally nothing for sale, including one whose category page just says "there are no products listed under this category." So if shopping this stuff has felt like shouting into an empty warehouse, it's not you.

Mine, and what's actually different about it

Legacy Layers. Family-run out of Cincinnati since 2023. 670+ original cigar designs, $29.99, on the Gildan Softstyle 64000 — 4.5 oz./yd², 100% U.S. ring-spun cotton, 30 singles (S&S Activewear spec sheet). Eight colors. S–3XL, with 2XL and up a couple dollars more, and a separate 4XL–6XL collection.

I'm not going to tell you it's the softest shirt on earth, because Comfort Colors is heavier and Bella+Canvas is finer and I'm not interested in pretending otherwise. What I will tell you is the exact garment, weight and cotton — which almost nobody else in this roundup does. Compare me on a spec sheet, not a photo.

The designs are the real argument. Browse funny cigar tees, state cigar society crests, or the cigar and whiskey line and you'll see the difference from a stock punchline.

The fabric thing nobody tells you

Ounces per square yard is just how much a square yard of the fabric weighs. It's density, not shirt size, so it compares straight across. Here's the field:

  • Bella+Canvas 3001 — 4.2 oz, 32 singles, XS–5XL. Light, drapey, fashion-fit. A little see-through in white (BELLA+CANVAS).
  • Next Level 3600 — 4.3 oz, 32 singles, XS–6XL. Similar feel, best size range of the four (S&S Activewear).
  • Gildan Softstyle 64000 — 4.5 oz, 30 singles, XS–5XL. The soft-but-affordable standard.
  • Comfort Colors 1717 — 6.1 oz, 20 singles, S–4XL. Genuinely heavy, garment-dyed, broken-in feel. Coarser hand, hotter in August (S&S Activewear).

Two numbers, two jobs. Weight tells you body and opacity — whether the shirt hangs off you or clings. Singles tells you hand — higher number, finer yarn, smoother face. Two shirts at the same weight can feel nothing alike.

And the one that'll bite you: heathers are not 100% cotton. On the Gildan spec, "Dark Heather & Heather colors are 65/35 polyester/cotton" and Sport Grey is 90/10. Same style number, different fiber, depending on which color you clicked. Anybody advertising "100% cotton" across a whole color range is wrong on at least a couple of them.

Cigar Was Here Before Vapes t-shirt in black, a cigar shirt for lounge regulars
Black hides ash. Ask me how I learned. Cigar Was Here Before Vapes in Black, $29.99.

Printing: what survives the dryer

Four methods, and they don't age the same.

Screen print sits on top of the fabric in layers, which makes it "highly resistant to wear, frequent washing, and abrasion" with "a thick, tactile feel" you can find with your thumb (Printful, July 23, 2025).

DTG bonds ink into the fabric instead of onto it — softer, flatter, breathes better. Printful rates it at "50+ washes with proper care" (Printful, March 19, 2026). Worth saying out loud: Printful sells print-on-demand, so that's a vendor's number, not a lab's.

DTF lays a thin film on top. You can feel it. It generally outlasts DTG (ScreenPrinting.com, updated Jan. 22, 2025).

Embroidery wins on life span — "often lasts longer than the garment," no fading, peeling or cracking. Costs more and limits detail.

For a detailed graphic tee you'll wear weekly, DTG on a ring-spun cotton tee is the sweet spot. For a three-color logo you want to outlive you, screen print.

Sizing: the average guy is not a medium

CDC's body measurement data for U.S. men 20 and over: average height 68.9 inches, average weight 199.0 pounds, average waist 40.6 inches (CDC/NCHS FastStats, survey Aug. 2021–Aug. 2023, page reviewed June 26, 2025).

Now look back at those four shirts. Comfort Colors stops at 4XL. Gildan and Bella+Canvas stop at 5XL. Next Level goes to 6XL. And in the guayabera world, going big-and-tall costs you an extra five or six dollars on the same shirt.

If you're past 3XL, your problem isn't taste. It's that half this industry quietly stops making your size. That's why we split ours into its own 4XL, 5XL and 6XL collection instead of burying it in a dropdown.

What to actually wear where

Lounge on a Saturday: Cuban collar or guayabera if there's a dress code, a designed tee if there isn't. Dark colors — smoke clings and ash falls.

Backyard and garage: whatever makes you happy — this is where the funny one earns its keep.

Herf with the crew: matching shirts are undefeated. We wrote up matching cigar shirts for the whole crew for exactly this.

Buying for him: a tee is the one cigar gift you can't get wrong, because you're not guessing his blend. Start at the complete cigar gift guide, then narrow down with lounge outfit ideas for men.

Dads Finer Thing Club cigar t-shirt in white, a cigar shirt gift for dad
The safest cigar gift there is — you're not guessing his blend. Dads Finer Thing Club in White, $29.99.

The honest bottom line

If you want one shirt and you want it to last, buy on the spec sheet and ask what it's printed on. A seller who won't answer has told you plenty at $28 and nothing at all at $9.

If you want a shirt that gets you the nod across the lounge, buy the design, not the logo. Somebody else's brand on your chest is their billboard. A good cigar design is yours.

And if it's been a decade since anybody said a word about what you were wearing, that's a fixable problem, and it runs cheaper than a box of sticks.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cigar shirt?

Two things wear the name. One is the Cuban collar or guayabera button-down associated with cigar culture. The other is a graphic tee with cigar art or a cigar saying on it. Both count. We broke down every style in this guide.

How much should a good cigar shirt cost?

Graphic tees fall between $9 and $32 depending on where you buy. Cuban collar shirts run $67–$73. Linen guayaberas run $69–$106. Under $15, expect no answer on the garment at all. Over $25 with no spec published, ask why.

What size cigar shirt should I order?

Order your normal tee size. Gildan Softstyle runs true and slightly fitted. If you're between sizes or you want it to hang loose over a gut, size up one. Past 3XL, check that the seller actually carries it — many stop there.

Are cigar shirts a good gift?

They're the best low-risk cigar gift going. You can't buy his cigars without knowing his blend, and he already owns three cutters. A shirt only needs his size and a design that fits his humor.

Will the print crack in the wash?

Wash inside out, cold, and skip the high-heat dryer cycle and it shouldn't. DTG prints are rated at 50-plus washes by print-on-demand vendors. Screen prints and embroidery generally go longer.

Disclosure: I own Legacy Layers, so our shirts are in this roundup. Every price and spec from another seller was pulled from that seller's live page on Sept. 20, 2026, and is linked so you can check it.
